"What we refuse to face does not disappear, it gathers." Dr. Nyx
001 / About
Dr. Nyx is a licensed clinical social worker, doctoral scholar, and veteran whose practice is grounded in liberatory, anti-oppressive, and intersectional frameworks. Their work sits at the intersection of clinical care, organizational leadership, and the ongoing project of accountability in systems that harm the people they claim to serve.
Drawing from a scholarly lineage that includes James Baldwin, Audre Lorde, bell hooks, and the broader tradition of liberatory thought, Dr. Nyx approaches every room with the same orientation: non-agenda, non-hierarchical, genuinely present. Walking alongside, not ahead of.
Their scholarship centers the ALOC framework (Agency, Legitimacy, Ownership, Control) as a lens for understanding moral injury in social work leadership, and introduces the concept of caring containers as a reframing of supervision from performance monitoring to co-witnessing. The clinical modalities they draw on include Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and somatic-informed relational practice.
Dr. Nyx is not a credential. They are an experience.
002 / Areas of Focus
01
Centering the harm that accumulates when practitioners are asked to act against their values within systems built to extract rather than sustain. The ALOC framework offers a language for what has long been felt but rarely named.
02
Leadership as a site of both power and accountability. Reframing supervision through the lens of caring containers and co-witnessing, asking what it would mean to build structures that hold practitioners rather than surveil them.
03
Health is not neutral. Who gets to be well, who is pathologized, whose knowledge counts as evidence. A commitment to health equity grounded in structural critique and the epistemological traditions that have always known this.
04
Non-agenda, non-hierarchical, deeply present. ART and somatic-informed work that trusts the nervous system's wisdom. The practitioner's job is to hold the space, not to fill it.
05
From inside. The experience of service, its costs, the transition, and what it means to practice at the intersection of military culture, trauma, and the gaps in care that too many veterans fall into.
06
Queer joy as active resistance. Identity not as a category to be managed but as an experience to be inhabited fully. Practice that refuses to pathologize and insists on liberation as a clinical value.
004 / The Work, Live
DSW Capstone Showcase Presentation — University of Kentucky College of Social Work. The argument in full: moral injury is not an individual deficit. It is a structurally produced outcome. And ethical leadership is both the site of harm and the site of repair.
"I'm not a gender, I'm an experience. Not just a scent, a whole weather system."
